Chapter 8

In the study of his castle that night, Merlinius watched through one of the crystal balls as the fierce battle between Dagger and Deman unfolded. The crystal ball revealed the two dragons spinning out of control like a funnel of swirling clouds connecting the skies to the ground. Even Merlinius seemed shocked as he witnessed the first tornado ever to happen as it smashed through a villager’s dwelling, ripping apart the wood and thatch like mere twigs and straw. The dragon-made tornado surged through the village, leaving destruction in its wake.

Deetha soared right above the tree line in the forest wilderness, looking for Rago. Once she spotted him, she glided and landed next to him.

“Son, are you all right!?” Deetha asked, relieved to find him.

“Yeah, I’m sorry, Ma, but you’ve got to help me. There’s a human in trouble!”

“There’s a what?” Deetha queried.

“Ma, I’ll tell you more later!” Rago shouted, looking for David. “Right now, we have to go and help him!” Rago raced off in the direction of Sadan’s commotion as he dug his way to devour David. Inch by inch, his claws ate away the dirt, snagging again and again on David’s clothing.

As Rago and Deetha soared just above the trees, Rago was the first to see Sadan near the rocky outcrop alongside the ravine.

“Look! There he is!” Rago yelled. “Where?” Deetha asked her son.

“Over there!” Rago said, pointing in the direction of Sadan.

“I’ll go! Wait here,” Deetha told Rago. Deetha spotted her target, tucked her wings, and nose-dived into the monstrous dragon.

David’s screams met her ears as he kicked at Sadan’s claws.”Help! Help me! Somebody help me! Aaauugghhhh, please!!”

Fear raged in David’s heart, and he felt sure this was his end. Then, just as Sadan’s massive claw raised to bring down the final blow, Deetha blindsided him, knocking him onto his back. Sadan flailed and wiggled himself upright, then soared up into the sky with Deetha, wasting no time, giving chase.

Seeing that it was now safe to come out of his hiding place, David climbed out and ran into the forest’s darkness.

In the full moonlight, Sadan raced into the cover of the clouds, but Deetha caught him anyway. The two engaged in a fierce battle, as well. Both Deetha and Sadan blasted fire from their mouths, strike after strike, at each other.

Down on the ground, the fire strikes from the fighting dragons streaked across the sky, bolting in hot blue-white fire through the dark swirling clouds, and their roars echoed across the earth in thunderous tremors. The roiling clouds continually darkened as the fight continued, and rain slashed sideways around the four fighting dragons—the first thunderstorm in recorded history. In the sky not too far away, Deman and Dagger wrapped together in their continuous battle. Zindetha surged from her hiding place and joined in to help defeat Dagger, roaring as she clawed her way into the chaos. The roaring thunder of the dragons fighting grew even louder as Racus came to Dagger’s aid. The battle was out of control, with all five dragons biting, clawing, and blasting fire.
